Chapter 12

Jay

I was holding Willow's hand. I was holding Willow's hand after almost kissing her. I was holding Willow's hand as we were walking back to our place, where I was finally going to be able to kiss her.

The whole thing with Dan just hadn't seemed right to me and I needed to get some answers. After finishing as much as I could with my script, I headed over to McCarthy's. I was hoping that Alex would give me some insight into what was going on. I had expected him to tell me that Dan was a jerk. Or at least I was hoping that. Or that Dan wasn't around much and Alex thought they were close to breaking up. I hadn't thought Alex was going to tell me that he had never seen Dan and that Willow hung out there almost every night.

It was then that everything made sense. There was no boyfriend. She had made the whole thing up. It took me a bit of time to understand why and the only reason I could come up with was that she was interested in me. As much as I was in her and we had both been fools for far too long.

I had hoped that she would come to the bar, especially after she said she had plans with her non-existent boyfriend. It only confirmed my new knowledge that she was trying to avoid me. That the chemistry, the attraction that I had felt last night, since the beginning, was not one-sided.

It was torture waiting for her to show up. I was half worried she wouldn't and also concerned about what I would say when I did see her. As soon as she saw me, she knew her jig was up. I almost felt sorry for her, but it actually only made me care about her more. I couldn't believe that she would go to such lengths to try and not be with me. To try and fight an attraction that was so plainly obvious.

And now I was going home with her. Having almost kissed her, a situation that I could almost have killed Alex for interrupting. But it was going to be so much better when I kiss her for the first time in our house. Where everything started.

"I never thought our house was this far away," she said as we walked across the street.

"Right? It's taking forever to get there," I said and squeezed her hand.

"Last one there's a rotten egg," she said and broke free from my hold to start running down the street.

I laughed and then took off after her. She beat me, but just barely to the house. By then I was mindless of anything but her, having watched her sexy little ass in front of me the whole way home.

"Caught ya," I said as I stumbled into the house right after her.

"Do you now?" she asked.

"I hope so," I said and reached for her. She practically fell into my arms. I smiled at her as my mouth found hers.
